AIA Florida Annual Design Awards Honor Sarasota Architects 

A major award also goes to Sarasota Architectural Foundation leader Janet Minker.

Five Sarasota architects and a leader of the nonprofit Sarasota Architectural Foundation (SAF) are receiving statewide 2017 Design Awards this weekend at the AIA Florida/Caribbean chapter’s annual conference.

Merit Award for Sustainable Design: Caribbean Hillside Residence, Carl Abbott, FAIA


Test of Time Award: Women’s Resource Center (1989), Carl Abbott, FAIA

Honor Award of Excellence for New Work: Elling Eide Center, Guy Peterson Office for Architecture
   
Merit Award for Masonry in Design: Fruitville Elementary School addition, Sweet Sparkman Architects

Merit Award of Excellence for Historic Preservation and Restoration: Boca Grande’s Johann Fust Community Library (1950), Michael Epstein, project designer and architect and Pam Holladay, interior designer, Seibert Architects

Bob Graham Architectural Awareness Award: Janet Minker, a longtime leader of the nonprofit Sarasota Architectural Foundation, for her work in “advocating, educating and celebrating the Sarasota School of Architecture movement, [and] working to preserve its midcentury modern structures.” The award is named for former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham.
